Vaginal rejuvenation – also known as vaginoplasty or vaginal tightening – can help to build self-confidence, enhance sexual pleasure and enjoyment, and turn back the negative results of pregnancy and aging. Many women choose vaginal rejuvenation after childbirth, significant weight loss or other body changes, aging, or injury.
When women age, bodies transform; in many cases, these natural physical developments can lead to lowered self-esteem and body confidence, as well as a less enjoyable sex life. Vaginal rejuvenation is a surgical option to “turn back time” and help women regain their youthful vaginal appearance, tightness and pleasure.
You may be a candidate for vaginal rejuvenation if:
- Your vaginal contours have stretched and changed over time; for example, excess skin after weight loss, or changes caused by aging or childbirth.
- You experience pain and discomfort when bicycle riding, engaging in sexual intercourse, or riding a horse.
- You have experienced reduced sensation and feeling following multiple vaginal deliveries in childbirth.
- You are having corrective surgery for incontinence and want to enhance your vaginal area while undergoing the procedure.
Advantages of Vaginal Rejuvenation
The name of the procedure says it all: with vaginal rejuvenation, your vagina and the surrounding muscles will return to the tightness and appearance of your youth or before your pregnancies. You may also feel a boost in your self-confidence and body image, especially when wearing tight jeans or leggings, lingerie, or swimsuits. Up to 90% of women who undergo vaginal rejuvenation procedures report a renewed sex life and a transformation in their own feelings about their vulvas and vaginas.
The Procedure and Technique
Our physicians and surgeons will provide a full examination in order to verify that you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. When you come in for a consultation, tell us about any urological or sexual problems, pain, discomfort, or lack of sensation that you are experiencing.
Vaginal rejuvenation is usually performed under general anesthesia. The procedure takes 1-2 hours to perform in full and is usually completed as an outpatient procedure. The procedure involves the removal of one section of the vaginal lining and the movement of muscles in order to tighten the inner and outer areas of the vagina.

Recovery After Vaginal Rejuvenation
Most women can walk around cautiously on the afternoon of their surgery, following the wearing off of anesthesia. For 24 to 48 hours after the procedure, patients should place cold packs or ice packs near their surgical incisions to reduce bruising and swelling. In four to five days, women who have a vaginal rejuvenation procedure are usually able to return to work and resume normal activities, although it is important to wear loose clothing and all-cotton underwear. The sutures of the surgery will dissolve on their own six weeks following the surgery. During that six-week period, women should avoid the use of tampons, sexual intercourse, swimming, bath tubs, cycling, horseback riding, motorcycles, and strenuous exercise.
Patients will experience increased friction during sexual intercourse and a significantly tighter vagina. The results of the surgery are generally considered permanent, except in case of vaginal childbirth following the procedure.
